For some companies, moving shared network folders or even their DMS into the cloud is still a long way from being a reality. At the same time, firewalls restrict external services from accessing the local network infrastructure. However, many DMS are still based on local network infrastructures which cannot change for various reasons.

Local (shared) network folders are used so that different departments can work in close collaboration. Scanning to a dedicated folder or a shared drive facilitates storage of documents in local on-premise Document Management Systems (DMS).
